Anthony O’Connor overcomes an Iron Mountain

Iron Mountain project - 2 dismantling
AOC Services: News

Salford based Anthony O’Connor & Sons Ltd (AOC), has just completed a unique project outside of their normal service as demolition contractors, for confidential records management company, Iron Mountain UK Ltd.

The work commenced in August headed by Luke Roche, Contracts Director at AOC, and involved the dismantling and removal of 150 tonnes of high bay racking and shelving from an existing warehouse that spreads over a huge area of approximately 2500 square metres to 8 metres in height, made up of stairways and mezzanine floors.

AOC negotiated the work through Contract Services Ltd in Irlam, who were the principal contractors for the project. Managing Director, Steve Evason, comments: “Although this doesn’t fall within the normal remit of work we usually appoint Anthony O’Connor & Sons for, we felt they would be the best contractor to deal with the complexity of the Iron Mountain project given their ownership and experience in utilising the equipment required for the job.

Iron Mountain had already ensured that the confidential documentation intrusted to them by multiple clients were transported securely, and confidentially to alternative undisclosed locations prior to the project evaluation and engagement of works.  Thus protecting the very essence of the service that the business provides for its clients, 75% of which are FTSE 100 companies.  As a result of this pre-planned approach, AOC were able to get straight on to the dismantling work using a scissor lift for access and employing 20 tonne and 25 tonne tracked excavators to clear the site, from which all of the steel was transported to be recycled by AOC as part of their services.

Work was completed within one week, and from Iron Mountain, David Evans, Asset and Lifecycle Manager UK & Ireland, commended AOC: “Luke and his team have been extremely professional towards the precision that this complex work required, and I’m delighted at the short space of time in which the entire unit has been cleared with safe and environmentally friendly disposal of the racking system and associated steel work. I hope to work with Anthony O’Connor and Contract Services for future requirements, building on the strong strategic supply-chain partnerships this project has enabled us to develop.
